What Is Resin-Bound Surfacing?
Resin bound surfacing is a durable, low-maintenance solution that creates a smooth, attractive finish for driveways, patios and pathways. By mixing natural aggregates with a high-quality UV-stable resin, we create a permeable surface that allows water to drain naturally while providing a long-lasting finish that enhances the appearance of your home.
One of the biggest advantages of resin bound surfacing is its versatility. It can often be installed over an existing tarmac or concrete base where suitable, or we can excavate and prepare a brand-new foundation for a completely new driveway, patio or path. Because the material is hand-trowelled into place, it’s ideal for everything from large driveways and sloping entrances to winding garden paths and more intricate designs.
A Huge Choice of Colours and Finishes
Whether you prefer a traditional golden stone to complement a period property or a contemporary grey finish for a modern home, resin bound surfacing is available in a wide range of colours to suit every style. We use the trusted Daltex resin bound system, offering more than 40 standard aggregate blends, allowing you to create a finish that’s unique to your property.
We’ll help you choose the perfect colour combination and design, ensuring your new resin driveway, patio or pathway enhances your home’s kerb appeal and provides a beautiful, hard-wearing surface for many years to come.Resin Bound Driveways, Patios and Paths in North Devon

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about resin-bound driveways, patios, pathways, SUDS compliance and maintenance.
What is resin-bound surfacing?
Resin-bound surfacing is created by mixing natural stone aggregates with resin before trowelling the mixture onto a prepared base. It creates a smooth, durable and decorative surface for driveways, patios, pathways, car parks and other light traffic areas.
Is resin-bound surfacing permeable?
Yes, resin-bound surfaces are permeable because small gaps between the aggregates allow water to drain through the surface. This makes resin-bound surfacing a practical and attractive option for driveways and outdoor spaces.
What does SUDS compliant mean?
SUDS stands for Sustainable Urban Drainage System. It helps surface water drain naturally into the ground, reducing standing water, surface runoff and the risk of flooding in built-up areas.
Is resin-bound surfacing SUDS compliant?
Resin-bound surfacing can be SUDS compliant when installed onto a suitable porous base, such as open-textured tarmac or a specially prepared permeable base. If laid over a non-permeable surface, suitable drainage or a soakaway may be required.
What base is needed for a resin-bound driveway?
A resin-bound driveway needs a stable, sound and well-prepared base. Suitable bases can include tarmac, asphalt or concrete, depending on the condition of the existing surface and the drainage requirements of the project.
Can resin-bound surfacing be laid over existing concrete or tarmac?
In many cases, resin-bound surfacing can be installed over existing concrete or tarmac, provided the surface is stable, clean, free from major cracks and suitable for the intended use. We will always assess and prepare the base before installation.
How do you maintain a resin-bound surface?
Resin-bound driveways, patios and paths are low maintenance. Regular sweeping with a stiff broom and occasional rinsing with clean water will help keep the surface looking its best. A pressure washer can also be used carefully to remove moss, algae or dirt build-up.
Are resin-bound surfaces weed resistant?
Yes, resin-bound surfaces are highly weed resistant when properly installed. However, windblown seeds may occasionally settle on the surface. Small weeds can usually be removed by hand or treated with a suitable domestic weed killer.
What can I park on a resin-bound driveway?
Resin-bound driveways are designed for normal pedestrian and domestic vehicle use. Heavy objects such as skips should not be dragged across the surface, and protection should be used during building work to prevent damage from oil, cement, grease or solvents.

I couldn't recommend Dean and his crew any more highly. From the moment they started, the job went like clockwork. I was given a price that was cheaper than any other quotes I had received. They arrived prompt and worked like machines. First digging to the right depth in preparation for resin surface. Once all the earth was dug out a truck came and took several loads of earth and delivered all of the hard-core and stones. A day or so later Dean arranged for it to be tarmacced. We had a short delay on laying the resin but that was in no way Deans fault. The weather has to be perfect for laying. No chance of rain as it can ruin the process. Dean and his team arrived one day prepared for action and then decided it was too risky. The following week we had perfect weather. Dean arrived early with his crew and cracked on with it for a solid 7hrs! I am over the moon with the finished result. I asked for a wave in my design and he has done it beautifully. I'm sure he can do any design if you ask for it. Definitely 10 out of 10 😀👍Posted on Facebook Dave HadlandrecommendsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Facebook. To be honest I couldn't praise Devon Resin Surfaces enough. As a builder myself I'm always very werry of other trades work. But in Devon resin surfaces case i could not fault. From the moment they arrived to start the job they kept me informed they explain everything even the reason thay were waiting for the correct temperature to start. There preparation before starting to lay the resin had to be 100% (Dean is a perfectionist) any discrepancys in the surface hes laying on had to be right. We were very happy with the price but watching them work they earned their money. The finished product massively exceeded our expectations. They left the job as tidy as when they arrived. All in all exceptional tradesmen and quality of work would and will recommend to everyone.Posted on Facebook Kane WorsnoprecommendsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Facebook.
